When to Use a Breather Filter

A breather filter is used when venting a crankcase, gearbox, or differential breather directly to atmosphere rather than recirculating it back into the intake. The filter prevents dirt and debris from entering the breather port while allowing pressure to vent freely. Commonly used on race and track cars, or as a simple open-vent solution on road cars where a full catch tank system is not required.
